As part of the promotion of Azerbaijan’s gastrotourism and wine tourism potential, the country’s community-based winemaking traditions are being represented at the Slow Wine fair held in Bologna, Italy.
Slow Wine, part of the Slow Food movement, emphasizes cultural and biological diversity, the preservation of traditions that minimize environmental impact, sustainable production, and agroecological practices, all centered around the unique grape varieties of each wine region.
Azerbaijan is represented at the fair by wine producers F.A. Valley and Meyvi Spirits, both of which adhere to the Slow Wine principles. The event is attended by over 1,000 winemakers and wineries, as well as more than 10,000 visitors.
At the fair, guests have the opportunity to taste wines made from biodiversity products unique to Azerbaijan’s national production.
The Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Republic of Azerbaijan to Italy, Rashad Aslanov, visited the national stand and explored the showcased products.
Rashad Aliyev, Deputy Chief Executive Officer of the Azerbaijan Tourism Board, participated in a panel discussion titled "Community Grapes: Strengthening Local Grape Varieties and Wine Tourism," where he shared insights on the work being done to promote Azerbaijan’s unique local grape varieties, such as the Madrasa variety.
Additionally, a business meeting was held with Ludovico Rocatello, head of the Slow Wine network, to discuss the international experience and planned initiatives in Azerbaijan’s wine tourism sector.
